Sufyan, the son of assassinated Syrian dissident ambassador Nour Al-Din Labbad, has revealed new details about the fatal attack on his father and uncle, Imad, which took place two nights ago in As-Sanamayn, north of Daraa.

In his statement, Sufyan recounted that his father was at his uncle’s home in the Al-Majbal neighborhood when two armed men stormed the residence and opened fire on both of them.

He further explained that a third individual waited outside on a motorcycle, according to surveillance footage, emphasizing that the attackers had precise knowledge of his father’s whereabouts, indicating prior surveillance.

Labbad’s son also revealed that his father had received multiple threats via Facebook, particularly because of his role as a prominent political activist in France and a defector from the regime since 2013.

"We didn’t take those threats seriously," he admitted, "We never imagined it would come to this level."

According to Sufyan, his father had long harbored a deep desire to return to Syria, visit his village, and pay respects at his parents' grave. Since his arrival in Daraa, he had been visiting their cemetery daily, as if seeking closure in his homeland.

He concluded by demanding justice and accountability for those responsible for the crime in As-Sanamayn.

Labbad, who defected from the Syrian regime in 2013, two years after the outbreak of anti-Assad protests, had returned from France to Syria about two weeks ago. He was planning to leave for France just five days after the assassination.

Throughout his diplomatic career, he held several high-ranking positions, including Minister Plenipotentiary at the Foreign Ministry. He also served in Syrian diplomatic missions in Paris, Sana’a, Ankara, Baghdad, and Tripoli.
